Cyanotype Workshop with Sarah Garrod £35
Sat 25th Sept 12-2pm. Set Studios, Riverside House, Beresford Street, Woolwich SE18 6BU
Join photographic artist Sarah Garrod for a fun Workshop in Cyanotype printing with a watery theme !
This Victorian printing process was used by Anna Atkins to document specimens of seaweed around the UK and was one of the earliest forms of photograph. For this beginners workshop we will place plants and sea finds onto pre-sensitised water colour paper, and expose them to the sunshine. We remove the objects and develop the prints in water where they magically turn into blue prints ! The final stage is drying and you will be able to take your prints home.
During this 2hr workshop Sarah will give a historic overview and also some guidance on colourising your cyanotypes, including with botanical agents. There will also be a 15min break. Prints are more successful in sunshine, but results are still fair on a cloudy day and we do have a UV lamp if necessary.
The studios are a short walk from Woolwich Arsenal stations. We will meet at the main entrance (on Beresford Street) at midday. On the left is a photo of the large workshop space, we will be taking our prints into the sunlight in the carpark.
The workshop is aimed a beginners, 18+ only. If disabled access is required please email firstname.lastname@example.org before booking to discuss. This workshop has a maximum of 6 participants.
In the event of coronavirus restrictions, we may have to take this event online via Zoom (with a kit posted to you in the UK), or you can opt for a refund.
