Light Installations

Dark Alley

My piece “Dark Alley” was commissioned for the “Reclaim The River” project by Resolve and Historic England. artists made a trail of outdoor artworks across Woolwich town centre. I made a light sculpture from all recycled materials including old crates from the market. Myrtle Alley is a historic cut through, once the back end of slaughterhouses and brothels and now locally known as “Piss Alley” and an escape route for shoplifters. For my piece I photographed women walking past and explored the issue of safety after dark in the town centre.

Over the course of the outdoor exhibition the piece got gradually altered. One panel was repeatedly punched through overnight, and I replaced it a few times before deciding to leave it as part of the experience. The red hanging parts were ripped down, and excrement appeared as usual in the alley .

Light The Way festival

I recycled my light crates to make the piece “Dark Path” for the Thamesmead Let There Be Light Festival. The light sculpture trail was an incredible way to light up the winter . Being site specific again, I was able to use portraits of Thamesmead locals, arranged on a promontory over the old sewer route (the Ridgeway) that is now abundant with nature.

Nature Through A New Lens

This was a project commissioned by Hive, in which I led workshops with local residents producing cyanotype prints that became a dazzling light installation in a field. I led foraging walks around Southmere Lake, the canals, the Ridgeway and the community orchard. The biodiversity we found was reflected in our cyanotypes.
