Sarah worked as a TV Director for 20yrs (for the likes of the BBC, Sky, HTV) before switching to photography and music. She wanted to focus on the specific single frame, and the purest forms of communication in sound, light and colour. Prior to that she studied Drama in Bristol (you can see the theatrical influence in her work), and post-graduate Film at Goldsmiths College. She wrote papers on Synaesthesia, and Soap Opera.
Living in South East London for 30yrs , Sarah became a sought-after portrait photographer for local families. She has worked in darkrooms in Greenwich, New Cross and Woolwich, and trained under Master Printer Tim Rudman in the specialist technique of Lith Printing. She continues to experiment with materials, using mixed-media (collage, paint, sound), cyanotype (sun-printing), and liquid emulsion (photos on 3D surfaces) . Her Fine Art photography is exhibited and sold in various galleries from Whitechapel to Spain.
Themes include: Ecology, Environment, S.E.London, Loss, Science and Myth.
Sarah harnesses the power of natural light on location, and also with her cyanotype sun-printing. She works with vintage analogue film cameras, as well as pro digital equipment (and Photoshop) and occasionally video.
Sarah enjoys contributing to the local community with photography assignments for local charities, and workshops for all ages. She also takes portrait commissions.
In 2019 Sarah was commissioned to work on a Photo Project with the Downham Mens Group over several months. Funded by Mayor of London & Lewisham Council.
2019-2020 Sarah won a large commission to make artworks for the Timberyard development in Deptford, focussing on the history of the docks.
