Thamesmead Photo Mission- summary

Looking at “Cuddling Crows” taken by Mary-Anne

In the depths of winter lockdown I assembled a team of 8 photographers from Thamesmead for an online project. Over the course of 5 weeks we met online and I gave them tips and sent them on missions to take photos either on their daily walks or in their homes and gardens. We had several guest speakers join us to share knowledge on Portraiture, Wildlife and Architecture.

They achieved fantasic results with their DSLRs, compact cameras and phones. I curated the vast submission of images into an online exhibition here.

At the end of the last session we let the cats (who kept crashing the Zoom) say hello !

In an experiment with cross-disciplinary practice, I painted the faces I saw on the screens of these participants who worked together over several months, and we never met.
