Mermaids on the Thames
Cyanotype Workshop with Sarah Garrod £35
THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULLY BOOKED
Sat 25th Sept 12-2pm. Set Studios, Riverside House, Beresford Street, Woolwich SE18 6BU
Join photographic artist Sarah Garrod for a fun Workshop in Cyanotype printing with a watery theme ! Sarah is producing a new series of Mermaids in Cyanotype, for the Totally Thames Festival and this workshop is to coincide with that.

This Victorian printing process was used by Anna Atkins to document specimens of seaweed around the UK and was one of the earliest forms of photograph. We will place plants and river/sea finds onto pre-sensitised water colour paper, and expose them to the sunshine. We remove the objects and develop the prints in water where they magically turn into blueprints ! The final stage is drying and you will be able to take your prints home.
Due to popular demand you will also have the opportunity to print a piece of fabric . The fabric would be large enough to make a glasses case or small pencil wallet. I will give a demo of coating, toning and using negatives. There will be some pre-printed negatives to try. This will be comprehensive workshop for all levels – beginner to expert. Sarah will answer any technical questions you have, and the last session was such fun it ran over, so be prepared to stay later if you wish.

this blueprint has been dipped in tea
some of the colours that can be achieved through toning.
You will make enough fabric to take home and make a small item like this
Its also World Cyanotype Day on this date! So we can share our work to a worldwide audience.

The studios are a short walk from Woolwich Arsenal stations. We will meet at the main entrance (on Beresford Street) at midday. On the left is a photo of the large workshop space, we will be taking our prints into the sunlight in the carpark.
The workshop is for all levels, 18+ only. This workshop has a maximum of 10 participants and all my workshops so far have sold out.
