Make a mosaic from recycled broken plates!
Join artist Sarah Garrod to make your own skull day-of-the-dead mosaic to take home.
At this workshop we will be finding another use for all those broken and chipped plates. All materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring you own crockery to break up and use as long as they are china or porcelain, rather than ceramic. Plates are easier than cups!
This is an introduction to the mosaic technique for beginners to intermediate. You will learn:
- What materials can be recycled into a mosaic
- What materials work in the uk climate outdoors
- Mixing adhesive and grout
- Backing substrates
- Tools needed and not needed
- Safety steps
- Grouting demo
We’ll also be starting discussions on a large outdoor mosaic that Sarah will co-create with the garden volunteers and workshop participants.
At the end of the session you will be given a small bag of grout to take home to finish your piece. Alternatively you are welcome to re-join Sarah at the garden on Wednesday 14th October 2-3pm to do your grouting under her guidance.
We suggest you bring an A4 size tin or box to take your work home in as it might still be tacky.
In the event of extreme weather the workshop might be postponed
Composting toilet on site. Tea and coffee available . Please note that the entrance to the garden is at 10 Blackwall Lane and not on Commerell St .
