I’ve been shooting portraits of Londoners who have an interest in the environment. As I photograph them, I take notes. I will take elements of their thoughts and display them alongside their face on a leaf. My aim is to express, quite literally, that we are all interconnected with Nature.
I am still in progress with this project, with thanks to an award from the Richard and Siobhan Coward Foundation. I want to build up a bank of faces and texts before thinking about displaying this ‘paperless’ series. The leaves I am using are very precious , I have been collecting and pressing them over a number of years from sites such as Tidemill Gardens that have since give way to new development.
During lockdown, I experimented with plants and leaves gathered from my daily walks. This was a Chlorophyll print made in the sun.
